Hello Fellow Scouters,

Technology is all around us. Our children are not afraid of using all of these sophisticated gadgets, but do they know how and why they work? The Boy Scouts of America's NOVA Awards program incorporates learning with cool activities and exposure to science, technology, engineering and mathematics for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers. The hope is that the requirements and activities for earning these awards stimulates interest in STEM-related fields and shows how science, technology, engineering and mathematics apply to everyday living and the world around them. Counselors and mentors help bring this engaging, contemporary, and fun program to life for youth members.

STEM will be the theme for our November Roundtable. It will be held in the White Lodge, at the Nobscot Boy Scout Reservation. on Thursday evening, November 14th. The evening will start with a Cracker barrel at 7:00pm. The meeting will start at 7:30pm. Roundtables are intended for anybody who wants to improve their unit's program or their personal knowledge. It is also a great place to meet other leaders. I am sure there will be plenty of discussions.

The Roundtable presentations will be finished by 8:30pm, but the cracker barrel will continue until 9:00pm

Themes for upcoming Roundtables;

  • December 12th - ADHD and how packs, troops and crews can accommodate young people with ADHD.
  • January 9th - Wilderness Survival and Staying Found if we stray from the trail.

Yours in Scouting,

Bruce Wester and Dick Clarke
