Are you the parent of a Webelos Scout who is considering becoming a Boy Scout leader when your son crosses over this year? Are you a Boy Scout leader who wants to more confidently share the outdoor scouting program with your troop? Are you a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster who needs to be fully trained so you can be listed on your troop’s charter when it is renewed in December? If you can say “Yes” to any of the above, then you should sign up for the Fall IOLS.
The IOLS course is a fun-filled program of hands-on outdoor skills training designed to help adults master the basic skills boys are required to learn to advance from Tenderfoot to First Class. This is a fun course where you learn by doing! Instructors will help you learn camp setup, cooking, working with woods tools, knots and lashings, first aid, campfire program planning, map reading, compass use, hiking and backpacking techniques, nature identification and Leave No Trace. Each session will bring the Boy Scout Handbook to life to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to the youth you serve. Your comfort as a leader will increase as you become more confident because of the new knowledge and skills you acquire. You will work with other Scout leaders, meet new friends and have a great time!
NOTE: The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills training course is one of the requirements for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to be considered fully trained. This is the last time this course will be offered in the Knox Trail Council before Spring 2015.
