Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

You are invited to participate in the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills course; a fun-filled program of hands-on outdoor skills training in the basic skills boys are required to learn to advance from Tenderfoot to First Class. This is a fun hands-on course where you learn by doing while experiencing the EDGE training method.

Instructors will help you learn camp setup, working with woods tools, knots and lashings, campfire program planning, map reading, compass use, hiking and backpacking techniques, nature identification and outdoor ethics. Each session will bring the Boy Scout Handbook to life to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to the youth you serve. Your comfort as a leader will increase as you become more confident because of the new knowledge and skills you acquire. You will work with other Scout leaders, meet new friends and have a great time!

A required pre-course meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 6 PM to 9 PM, in White Lodge at Nobscot Scout Reservation.

NOTE: The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills training course is required for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to be considered trained.

When: Friday, May 12, 2017 6 PM to Saturday, May 13, 2017 6 PM

Registration deadline: May 5, 2017; Late registration is at the discretion of the course director.
